Keep Wildlife Wild!

We often visit Grand Canyon National Park. While the rocks are aging, we certainly don’t see those changes, but I did notice water stations in the park had gates around them. What’s up with that?

The water stations are provided for visitors to fill their water bottles with the canyon’s spring water. It’s important to stay hydrated at the higher altitude, especially with the hiking most people do while at the park. Other wildlife, such as elk, need water too. Amazingly, elk were taking drinks at the water stations too!

Usually, park officials are reminding people to give elk space, but I would have loved to see an elk grabbing a drink at a water station! That will not be happening. Gates are now built around the water stations.

So, fill your water bottle up and know an elk did not slurp there before you!
